The Reality of Workplace Accidents – The Benefits of Workforce Safety
Knowing that workplace accidents are widespread in any labor industry, it is essential to consider how your organization can create a culture of safety.
Accidents are a part of life. You stub your toe walking into the kitchen or accidentally drop a glass while doing the dishes – accidents happen, and generally aren’t consequential. But in the workplace, accidents or unexpected events can have much heavier consequences for organizations and their employees. Workplace incidents and fatalities are far more common than you might think. Sadly, many could have been prevented with the proper safety tools and protocol.
Workplace Incidents are Widespread
According to Zippia Workplace Injury Statistics, there are over 2.6 million nonfatal workplace accidents and injuries a year in the United States. And in January 2023 alone, there were over 70 fatal workplace incidents reported to OSHA.
Here are three specific incidents that occurred this year. In all three cases, the use of proper safety technology could have potentially changed the outcome and got help to the employees more efficiently.
In January 2023 alone, there were over 70 fatal workplace incidents.
- It was the employee’s first day on the job, and he had complained of weakness and fatigue. He was farming bell peppers in 90-degree heat. He was later found unresponsive and died due to a heat-related illness.
- A 20-year-old carpenter fell through the second-story stairway opening and landed on the first floor. Fortunately, he survived the fall and was still conscious when he was found with significant injuries and a skull fracture.
- An employee was cleaning up a spill in the bathroom. Even though he was being careful, he slipped and injured his femur and hip. It took several minutes before anybody found him and got help.
Events such as these are far more common than you might expect. The Becklar WorkerSafety Pro app was created specifically to help employers protect their workers from incidents such as these through scheduled check-ins, fall detection, motion detection, safety notifications, and more, along with professional monitoring services to ensure they get emergency assistance as quickly as possible when needed.

How The WorkerSafety Pro App Works
The WorkerSafety Pro app features fall detection. It can detect both big and small falls, such as falling from a ladder or falling off your chair. When a fall is detected, the app instantly requests a check-in from the employee. If the employee doesn’t respond, help will immediately be sent to their location.
Determining the exact location of an employee who experiences an accident is critical in getting help to them. Using GPS location and through our partnership with EVS, the WorkerSafety Pro app can accurately determine the location of an employee who needs help both outdoors and indoors. With EVS, geolocation can be determined not only where they are in a warehouse or building, but even which floor they are on.
Note: Location data is only shared with the supervising team in the event of an emergency. The WorkerSafety Pro app never tracks an employee’s location data otherwise.
Another advanced safety feature includes worker-down combined with Becklar’s advanced machine-learning voice assistant. The worker-down feature detects a lack of movement from an employee. This is helpful if an employee were to lose consciousness. In these instances, the app can determine their location and have help sent immediately.
Also, if the worker doesn’t respond or the voice assistant does not understand the employee’s response or the call gets cut off prematurely, the voice AI will automatically escalate the call and help will be sent to the employee’s location. That is one of the many fail-safes built into the WorkerSafety Pro app.
The newest feature of the WorkerSafety Pro app is heat stress monitoring. The app accurately identifies current temperatures using the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT). This is the most accurate representation of what the human body is experiencing in hot environments. It considers clothing, exertion levels, and heat zones to determine how hot it really is. With this information, the app can determine and notify workers when they should be taking breaks in shaded or cooled areas and how much water they should be drinking.
